Village Funds Flow to West Papua KKB, Paulus Waterpauw Reacts Strongly: Take Firm Action for This Group!

Unscrupulous village heads in Teluk Bintuni Regency, West Papua, are said to have funded the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in the area.

Unfortunately, the funds deposited are village funds that should be used to promote community welfare.

This was stated by the Regent of Teluk Bintuni, Petrus Kasihiw, in a working meeting of mayors and regents throughout West Papua, Thursday (20/10/2022).

Petrus said that village heads in remote areas were forced to give village funds to KKB because they were threatened with death if they refused.

"We hope that the police and TNI will pay serious attention so that people in the interior of Bintuni can live in peace," said Petrus Kasihiw.

Responding to the issue, the Acting Governor of West Papua, Paulus Waterpauw, stated that the problem was not only in West Papua Province, but also in Papua Province.

The former Papuan Regional Police Chief said that KKB demanded money from village officials accompanied by threats and even acts of violence.

The armed group, he said, waited for the village fund to be disbursed and then confronted the village head to ask for village funds.

"This is actually still happening," said Paulus Waterpauw when confirmed by the media after the meeting.

Paul said there is zero tolerance for anyone who commits acts of violence let alone to the death of others.

"We are trying to take firm action against this group. The apparatus will continue to take action against them," said Paulus Waterpauw.
