Vice President: The government continues to use a humanist approach in Papua

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said the government still chose to apply a humanist approach in maintaining security in the Land of Papua.

"We have adhered to that our approach is a humanist and territorial-based approach, as well as awareness for the community to be part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia; and so far this has been done," said Ma'ruf Amin at the Manuhua Air Force Base, Biak Numfor, Papua , Friday.

Ma'ruf Amin completed his working visit to four provinces and five districts in Tanah Papua since Wednesday (28/11).

Meanwhile, in response to the shooting incident by an unknown person (OTK) in Yahukimo, Papua Mountains, Wednesday (30/11), Ma'ruf Amin said that the government would take firm and measurable action as an effort to enforce law in Papua.

The shooting in Yahukimo left three members of the Operational Control Unit (BKO) of the Yahukimo Police Mobile Brigade injured by gunshots and one was declared dead.

"Although there are still shootings like that, actually the source, in terms of frequency, has decreased. Therefore our step is to look for those who carried out the shootings to enforce the law," he explained.

Even though he chose to use a humanist approach, he continued, sanctions would still be imposed if there was a violation of the law.

"Actually there has been a decrease in incidents compared to before, and indeed those who were shot were within the context of missions, yes, health missions, welfare missions, so one of the roots is for welfare. Even if someone from the TNI or the police commits a violation, yes They will also be dealt with. So they will be punished. For example, like yesterday there were those who were suspected of being mutilated, enforced, law enforcement was carried out because we want to give confidence," he said.

Previously it was reported that a number of OTK in Yahukimo intercepted and opened fire on the Cartenz Peace Ops Task Force personnel who were on patrol. The shooting occurred at Bridge 2, Jalan Poros Logpon KM 7, Yahukimo, around 16.40 WIT.

Cartenz Peace Ops Task Force personnel Bripda Gilang died with a gunshot wound to the lower cheek, while Briptu Fazuarsyah was shot in the left back, and Bripda Dona Bagaskara was hit by a bullet in the back.
