Vice President Ma'ruf Amin: The government gives priority to vocational education for native Papuans

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said the government would give priority to indigenous Papuans getting vocational education as a new approach for Papua going forward.

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin conveyed when inaugurating the Somatua Training Center Building which was carried out in a "hybrid" manner in Rimba Papua Mimika, Central Papua, Wednesday.

"I appreciate and welcome the Somatua Training Center and coordinated by Mr. Maximus Tipagau who is also a native of the region and feel proud that there are many Papuan sons and daughters who encourage new entrepreneurs as well as skilled job candidates, thank you Mr. Max," added the Vice President congratulating him on the accreditation won by Somatua Training Center.

"Congratulations on the successful accreditation of 14 majors from the Ministry of Manpower. I hope the Somatua Training Center will progress and develop in the future," hoped the Vice President.

Director of the Somatua Training Center Maximus Tipagau said that initially he was in the tourism business in the 2008-2010 period by bringing domestic and foreign tourists to the top of Carstensz, but he saw other needs in Papua.

Maximus said, Papua is rich but still has 0 abilities, so vocational and BLK must be built in new provinces so that poverty and crime for Papuans can be reduced. The answer is vocation but the Vice President needs help to set up work training centers with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Manpower.

In January 2022, 46 fifth batch of students were accepted for seven accredited majors from the Ministry of Labor including Electrical, Construction, Welder, Drilling, Heavy Equipment Operators (Excavators), Safety K3, and Mechanics and some of the participants have worked at PT. Free port Indonesia.
