Wondama residents enthusiastically welcome the Regional Culture Week activities

Residents of Teluk Wondama Regency, West Papua enthusiastically welcomed the local Regional Culture Week which was held for the first time in 2022.

Florianus Abo, a participant in the cultural parade from the Flobamora community, NTT in Wasior, Wednesday, said that holding the Wondama Bay Regional Culture Week was a good means of showing the original culture and traditions of the local community so that it would become more widely known.

In addition, the event is a vehicle for regional communities from outside Papua to introduce their respective cultures and traditions to local residents.

"We from the Flobamora Family Harmony hope that in Wondama there should be more and more frequent cultural activities so that those of us from other areas can get to know the culture of the Wondama people, and vice versa. This positive activity is very good if it is sustainable," he said.

The 2022 Teluk Wondama Regency Regional Culture Week will last for three days, opening from Monday (28/11) evening to this Wednesday.

The Chairperson of the Wondama Bay Regional Culture Week Committee, Yefta Siregar, said that the activity was filled with various cultural attractions and local wisdom of the indigenous people of Teluk Wondama, such as traditional dances, creative dances, drum flutes, and Wondama folklore.

Several original traditions, such as tokok sago, traditional food processing from black fruit, and some local wisdom from the tribes in Wondama are also displayed.

"We hope this activity will be able to attract up to 2,000 visitors," he said.

Wondama Bay Regional Culture Week 2022 begins with an Archipelago cultural carnival which is attended by various regional communities from all over Indonesia in Teluk Wondama Regency, including South Sulawesi Family Harmony (KKSS), North Sulawesi (KKSU), Southeast Sulawesi (KKST), Flobamora ( NTT), Batak Family Harmony, Javanese Family Association (IKJ), and various areas in the Land of Papua.

The carnival is enlivened by a parade of decorative vehicles displaying mascots and unique things from each region, followed by a parade of traditional clothes where each participant displays traditional clothes and unique attributes of their respective regions.

The parade is also enlivened by attractions, such as dances, marching bands and other regional arts.

The various cultural attractions are free entertainment for the residents of Wasior City and its surroundings. They enthusiastically welcomed the event along the route that the participants went through to finish at Masasoya Topai Wasior Park which is the location for the Regional Culture Week.

Teluk Wondama Regent Hendrik Mambor said the cultural parade which involved various tribes and communities showed the colors of diversity in Teluk Wondama Regency.

He hopes that through this momentum, collaboration will be built among all ethnic communities of the archipelago together with the local Wondama residents.

"This is proof that we are united, collaborating with each other in preserving the cultural arts of Wondama Bay," he said.
